Things to know about the 2nd & 3rd Grade Level Classrooms:
Absences
Allergies Please note student(s) in our school year have airborne allergies to peanuts. Please make sure any food you send in do not include nuts. Other items can be sent in at your discretion. |
Backpacks and Clothing Items!
Every student needs to have a backpack in school everyday. Names should be clearly labeled and easy to find. Please make sure your child’s backpack is emptied everyday. Notes and forms will be sent home in your child's Friday Folder on Fridays. Almost any other announcements and events can be found on our American Montessori Academy website. Help us go GREEN this year! Students are encouraged to pack their own backpack in the evening before bedtime and place them by the door, ready-to-go. Please be sure to label all sweaters, gloves, hat etc. to ensure your child's items don't get misplaced.
Birthdays
We have a new, school wide birthday policy here at AMA. Please check with the office and your handbook to help clear up any confusion!
Change in Routine
If your son/daughter will be deviating from their normal routine, such as being picked up early or riding home with a friend/relative, please let your teacher and/or the office know with a written note or email sent before lunch. For safety reasons it is very important that we know where the children are headed after school. It is school policy that children must follow their normal after school procedure if they do not have a note.
Do not call voicemail to leave messages, as we may often not check it until the end of the day after students have left.

Boys Uniform Guidelines

Girls Uniform Guidelines
|
All students shirts should not have a logo, the AMA logo is acceptable. No sweatpants will be acceptable as uniform pants. Jewelry must be kept to a minimum. Classroom rules for jewelry: if it comes off during class, it will be placed in a ziploc baggie and returned to backpack immediately. This is for the security of your child's possessions and permitting a distraction-free classroom environment. Thank you for your cooperation!
The climate in the room is automatically controlled by the outside temperature (in theory!). It can be chilly in the early fall and spring when the heater is not on, so children may want light sweaters. Please see sweater guidelines above!
Because we do go outside all year long it is important that your child be dressed for the weather. Hats and mittens/gloves are a must when the temperature dips. Please label all outerwear with names, especially boots and snowpants, which are required to play in the snow. It is not uncommon to have three or four pairs of boots/snowpants the exact same style and color.
Communications
Notes: If you are sending a note to your teacher via your child, please remind him/her before leaving home. Many a note has grown outdated, forgotten in the bottom of a backpack.
Voicemail: Teachers may not always be available to answer the phone during class times. When no one is available to answer the phone will go to voicemail. Teachers will normally check their voicemail before and after school. Please do not leave any “urgent” messages that we must receive before the end of the school day. Those calls should go to the Office
Email: Please check your child's teacher link for their specific email address
Field Trips
Field trips are being determined. When a field trip is coming up you will receive a permission slip form along with a brief itinerary of the planned trip. It is of extreme importance that when you receive these papers to return them ASAP!
Field trips are not a required part of the curriculum and your child will not be evaluated based on attendance.
Homework
The first of each month, students will be given a homework assignment sheet to fill in and follow. Students are expected to read 20 minutes each night and record it on their reading logs located on the back of their homework bingo. Additional homework may result from work not being finished in class. We will periodically have projects this year that may also require minimal independent home time to complete. Homework is due the last day of the month. Late homework will be finished during recess periods. Homework assignments will be updated to the Homework tab found at the top.
Medicine
If your child needs prescription or over the counter medicine while they are in school, short or long term, please bring it to the office. They will make sure it is administered at the proper time.
Friday Folders
Students need to have their Friday folders returned every Monday!
